(ROYAL OAK, MI) – Road crews will soon be closing off I-696 to traffic as they embark on a project to rehabilitate 10 miles of the highway. Beginning at 9pm on April 27, the closures of onramps to I-696 will completely close the westbound lanes of the freeway from I-75 to I-94 by the early morning.
The $90 million repair project will see concrete replacement in Macomb County while pavement and drainage will be fixed in Oakland County. The latter work will be completed over night and allow the highway to remain open weekdays between 5am and 9pm.
Completion is expected by November.
The eastbound lanes will be restricted but accessible.
