(LEAMINGTON, ON) – The Bank Theatre and Cardinal Music Productions are presenting Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece Into The Woods. The show will run March 2, 3, 4, and 5 at The Bank Theatre, at 10 Erie Street South in Leamington.
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances are at 7:30pm while the Sunday Matinee is at 2:00pm.
The fractured fairy tale adventure, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by James Lapine, invites audiences into the epic and entertaining world of the Brothers Grimm for a new fairy tale about wishes, family, and the choices we make.
When a childless baker and his wife procure magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse a curse a witch placed on their family tree, the two set off on an unforgettable journey into the woods.
They are joined by Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival to meet her prince, Little Red Ridinghood off to bring some treats to her poor old granny, and Jack, who is on a mother-motivated mission to sell his beloved cow.
Deep in the woods, wishes are granted, curses are reversed, and the heroes of our story learn to be careful for what you wish.
During its Broadway run, the original show won the Tony Award for Best Score and Best Book, and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical, a 2002 revival took home the Tony Award for Best Revival, and in 2011 the show scored the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Revival.
The tale was made into a critically acclaimed Disney Film in 2014, starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp.
The 20+ ensemble cast includes performers of all ages who have taken local stages with most of the city’s theatre production companies.
Tickets are $20 for general admission seating, and available in Leamington at Wharram’s Jewellers and Counter Effects or by calling 519-326-8805. Online tickets are available.
