Final Murder Suspect Arrested In Windsor

(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Police Service has been actively investigating a homicide which occurred on October 19, 2016. Walter Smith, 67, from Windsor, was charged with the forcible confinement and murder of Scott Phillips, 26.

At that time, warrants were issued for Dustin Schuh, 26, Daniel Shaw, 38, and Melissa Luyten, 32, all from Windsor. Each of the suspects were wanted for kidnapping, forcible confinement, and first-degree murder.

Investigators received information from the Centre of Forensic Science regarding a DNA hit from evidence obtained from the murder scene on Mill Street. The DNA match pointed to identical twins Dennis Christian Bercian, 30, and Erick Alexander Bercian, 30, both from Windsor. The brothers were arrested and charged with murder, forcible confinement, and kidnapping.

In November, WPS received information indicating that at least one of the wanted persons were in a location in London. Luyten and Schuh were arrested in London without incident.

Three days ago, members of the Emergency Services Unit located the final outstanding suspect, Daniel Shaw, in the area of the 7000 block of Charlie Brooks Court and placed him under arrest.
