(THAMESVILLE, ON) – On May 12, a two-vehicle collision occurred on Longwoods Road, between Zone Road 6 and Zone Road 7, where the driver of a truck was transported to a local hospital and the driver of a passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Longwoods Road was closed over the weekend while investigators processed the scene and for repairs.
Emergency crews responded to the collision where they found that the driver of a Toyota Camry crossed the center line into the oncoming path of a Freightliner truck carrying a load of granular fertilizer. As a result of the collision, the fuel tank ruptured on the truck, spilling approximately 75L of diesel fuel onto the roadway.
The driver of the truck, 58, from Lambton County, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he was treated and released.
The driver of the car, 58, from Chatham, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name will not be released as per the family’s request.
The collision remains under investigation by the CKPS Traffic Management Unit.
