Environment Canada Issues Severe Thunderstorm Watch

(WINDSOR, ON) – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Chatham-Kent, Rondeau Park, Windsor, Leamington, and Essex County.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop this afternoon ahead of an approaching disturbance.

Cloud cover is a limiting factor early this afternoon. However, sunny breaks and warmer temperatures a little later this afternoon should add fuel to any thunderstorms that develop. Isolated 2cm hail, strong wind gusts to 90kph, and heavy rainfall to 50mm are the main threats.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
