(WINDSOR, ON) – There is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Chatham-Kent, Rondeau Park, Windsor, Leamington, and Essex County. As of 1:32pm, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

A line of thunderstorms from Essex to Mitchell’s Bay is moving east at about 60kph. This thunderstorm has the potential to produce wind gusts near 90kph.

Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. When thunder roars, go indoors.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
