Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect

By Ian Shalapata

(WINDSOR, ON) – Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for today for Chatham-Kent, Rondeau Park, Windsor, Leamington, and Essex County.

Thunderstorms are expected to affect the area this morning and into this afternoon with the potential for torrential rainfall. The threat will diminish later this afternoon as the disturbance responsible moves away.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds, and/or torrential rainfall.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that persons take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
