Province Agrees To Flood Assistance

(WINDSOR, ON) – The government of Ontario has agreed to activate the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program due to the flooding which occurred on September 29-30. Those affected by the flooding and have experienced property damage or loss may be eligible to receive help with flood-related expenses.

Sewer back-up flooding is not eligible for assistance except for low-income households. Call 1-844-780-8925 for more information.

Special arrangements have also been made for garbage pick-up of flood damaged materials, beginning October 7. Residents east of Walker Road are eligible for the special pick-up of mattresses, appliances, rugs (cut and bundled in 4 foot lengths), furniture, and building materials (bundled, bagged or placed in pails).

Loose items must be placed at the curb in garbage bags weighing no more than 44 pounds. The hard-sided garbage container by-law will be waived for this special collection only.

Pick-up will be from the curb and not from the alley. Regular garbage pick-up will continue in addition to the special pick-up.

Residents living west of Walker road, and who experienced flooding, are required to contact 311 to register for the collection of flood-damaged items.
