(DETROIT, MI) – Detroit Free Press organizers are suggesting that participants, spectators, and anyone else driving through downtown Detroit to have patience this Sunday. There will a number of road closures which will make getting around during the marathon more challenging.
In addition to the various races which are part of the marathon festivities, the Detroit Lions will be hosting the St Louis Rams at Ford Field, adding to the traffic concerns.
Road closures will begin as early as 6:30am, ahead of the marathon and international half marathon, which get underway at 7:00am. The US half marathon will start at 10:00am.
There will be lane restrictions on the Ambassador Bridge between 5:45am and 9:00am, and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:45am until 10:00am.
Sections of West Fort Street, southbound Lodge Freeway, southbound I-375, and Belle Isle State Park, as well as the northbound I-75 exit to the Ambassador Bridge will be closed.
