Central Box Public Consultation Scheduled

Central-Box Dougall Ave traffic overpass

The central box has been known to be a safety hazard for at least 17 years while frivolous projects were given priority. The barrier to pedestrian and alternative transportation will now go to a public consultation process.

(WINDSOR, ON) – Stantec Consulting Ltd. has been retained by the City of Windsor to complete a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to recommend short and long-term transportation network improvements within the Central Box Study Area.

The Class EA is intended to identify transportation network improvements while considering established land uses, traffic operations over a 20-year period, pedestrian and bikeway connections, and consider related impacts to the existing infrastructure and utilities.

The study area is generally bounded by Eugenie Street, Howard Avenue, West Grand and South Cameron Boulevard, and Dominion Boulevard.

Public consultation is a key component of the environmental assessment process. Everyone who has an interest in this project should make their ideas known during the process.

Two Public Information Centres (PIC) and two Community Workshops will be hosted to present and discuss the need and justification for improvements, existing study area conditions, and assessment of alternative solutions and design concepts produced to date. Registration is required.

To register, contact Stantec Consulting at 519-966-2250 or by email.

Public Information Centre #1 will be held between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 6, at the Columbus Centre of South Windsor, 2401 Columbus Drive (off of Northwood Street west of South Cameron Boulevard).

The Community Workshop #1 will be held in the same location the following day between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

Upon completion of the study, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared and made available for a 30-day public review period.

During this time, the City is requesting comments from the public regarding the existing transportation conditions and related infrastructure in the study area.
