Evolving Cereal Plant Retains Workforce

(NIAGARA FALLS, ON) – The launch of a new breakfast product line by Post Cereals helped the cereal maker retain its workforce level at its Niagara Falls plant during 2011. Production of Great Grains, Post’s new whole grain cereal, started in early 2011.

Known locally as the “Shredded Wheat” plant, the Lewis Ave. cereal factory was established in Niagara Falls in 1904 and employs approximately 200 people. Over the years, the plant has produced several well-known Post Cereal brands including Post Shredded Wheat, Shreddies, and Post Selects.

Recent changes to Post Cereals corporate structure are not expected to have negative impact on the local production plant. Parent company Ralcorp Holdings has recently spun-off its Post Cereal business, creating a new, stand-alone, publicly-traded cereal company.

Ralcorp Holdings previously acquired the former Kraft Canada property in 2008 when it purchased the Post Cereals brand from Kraft in a $2.6 billion transaction.
