Windsor Man In Custody After Downtown Shooting

(WINDSOR, ON) – One man is in custody after gun fire in Windsor’s downtown on Saturday damaged the windshield of a parked SUV. The ensuing police investigation resulted in the seizure of cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana.

Just before 8am, officers responded to a report that a man had fired a gun in the area of Chatham Street West and Pelissier Street. Forensic evidence suggested that the damage to a Ford SUV was caused by a projectile.

Investigators identified a possible suspect and officers located the man at a motel on Howard Avenue later in the afternoon. He was arrested after a brief struggle with officers. Police seized the drugs from the hotel room, but have yet to locate the gun used during the downtown incident.

Joshua Gillespie, 27, of Windsor, has been charged with pointing and discharging a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a police officer. Police suggest there may be additional drug-related charges to follow.
