(WINDSOR, ON) – A new event where locals share money-saving tips for vacationing will be held just in time for planning summer getaways. Travel Hacking Workshop: An informal seminar on budget travel will take place on April 19, at Craft Heads Brewing Company at 7:30pm.
As a fan of budget travel, organizer Audra Macintyre thought sharing travel resources would be the great basis for an event.
“There is a wealth of talented and interesting people here with different backgrounds and perspectives and we’re looking for opportunities to bring them together to exchange information, skills and resources,” Macintyre said.
The workshop is a spin-off of Macintyre’s Loose Lips Language Exchange, a weekly event where guests come together to practice different languages and celebrate the city’s diversity.
“At the language exchange we meet people from all over and we have the opportunity to tap into their worlds,” she said. “Not only their language, but their history, politics, food, art, and so on. To try to highlight this, we started marrying the language exchange with culturally-themed events once a month. The idea of doing something related to travel felt natural.”
Travel Hacking Workshop will start with a panel discussion featuring people from Windsor who are experienced in different areas of travel. Topics will include finding flights and accommodations, travel resources, logistical tips, and safety advice.
A question and answer session will wrap up the talk, followed by a open mix-and-mingle where guests can trade stories about their travels. The event is free, but pre-registration is suggested as seating is limited. Donations will be accepted at the door for a local charity.
Macintyre wants this to be the first in a series of travel workshops and is eager to meet new travelers.
“I hope people leave this event armed with new resources and information that inspire them to get out there to explore and learn about the world around them,” she said.
