(PORTO, PORTUGAL) – The Lifestyle Editor for Square Media Group and the resident wine writer, Robert Stephen, has been plying his trade in the pages of The Square for seven years. Over that time he has become renown for his expertise on Port wine, particularly from the quintas in the Douro Valley of Portugal.
In the past, he has been the sole Canadian representative in Porto during Port Wine Day celebrations, as a guest of organizers. On June 22, Stephen was honoured by the Confrairia of Port Wine by being made a Confrades Honorários by the esteemed organization.
Ambassadors to Portugal from the United States and Brazil attended the enthronement.
The official honour conferred on Stephen is Cavaleiro (knight) and was enthroned in a Ceremony of Enthronement in Porto at the Palacio da Bolsa. All enthroned Confrades received a diploma and are required sign the official register.
New Confrades must be proposed by a Mestre or by the Chancelaria and are admitted due to the fact they have made a significant contribution to the understanding and prestige of Port Wine.
“I swear to give my support to the Confrairia and to continue fighting for the honour of Port Wine.” And then a toast was made. “For Port Wine, For the Confrairia, for the Confrades.”
Following the ceremony a black tie gala and reception was hosted by Confrairia of Port Wine.
