Mosquito Larvicide Program Starts Today

(ESSEX, ON) – Starting today and continuing until October 31, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will commence spraying as part of a mosquito larvicide program. With the approval of the Ministry of the Environment, the program will take place throughout the county in Windsor, Essex, Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Leamington, LaSalle, Amherstburg, and Kingsville.

The program will concentrate on areas within 2km of urban communities.

Larviciding is designed to reduce the mosquito population and thus the risk of residents contracting West Nile Virus. Two types of larvicide products will be applied to standing water and a third to catch basins.

All larvicide will be applied by ministry-licensed applicators or trained technicians.
