(WINDSOR, ON) – First twenty finalists vied for top honours in the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition at this year’s Discovery, hosted by Ontario Centres of Excellence. Then fourteen were eliminated with one student from Windsor standing as winner.
Raymond Tran’s company LITLYTE was one of the six winners. Tran is a student at the WC Kennedy Collegiate Institute in Windsor.
For five years the competition has been organized by OCE and the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth to bring aspiring high-school entrepreneurs from across Ontario together to present their ideas.
Over 200 students originally applied and prepared a two-minute video to describe their business venture. The 20 finalists were awarded a trip to Toronto to pitch their ideas live at OCE’s Discovery 2017 conference and showcase which ended Tuesday.
Brad Duguid, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development and Growth said he was certain the winners, “… will develop into tomorrow’s next generation of business leaders.”
The winners also took home up to $3,000 in start-up funds, reserved entry into the Ontario Summer Company program, entrepreneurial mentorship, and other awards.
