Truck Fire Closes Highway 401

(CHATHAM, ON) – Yesterday evening, the OPP responded to a tractor trailer collision on Highway 401 near Communication Road. Police found that the driver of a westbound tractor trailer lost control and struck the north side cement barrier, causing it to bounce off and strike the centre barrier.

As a result, the centre barrier was pushed into the eastbound lanes and the tractor trailer caught on fire.

The driver of the tractor trailer did not suffer any injuries.

Emergency crews were on scene and Highway 401 was closed. Traffic was diverted from the highway at Kent Bridge Road for about 10 hours while emergency repairs were completed on the roadway.

The investigation is ongoing.
