(CHATHAM, ON) – The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the circumstances surrounding an incident in Chatham which ended with a man suffering severe burns.
Just after 1:30am on July 1, CKPS officers received a call regarding a man in distress. Police officers arrived at a residence in the area of St Clair Street and McNaughton Avenue West and, a short time later, the man, 43, suffered serious burns to a significant portion of his body.
The man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance before being airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre.
The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to examine this incident. The SIU has designated two subject officers and two witness officers as part of the investigation.
