Shores Of Erie Fined In Teenager’s Death

(WINDSOR, ON) – An Ontario court in Windsor has fined the Shores of Erie International Wine Festival $65,000, including a victim surcharge, after the death of Emily Bernauer, 18, in 2014.Organizers were found guilty of failing to inspect her identification and for allowing a person under 19 years of age to drink.

Bernauer was working as a volunteer in the Sobey’s booth at the festival in Amherstburg and had been consuming alcohol prior to her death in a collision.

The festival, which is no longer operating, was cited with the two liquor license offenses and has six months to pay the fine. The lawyer for Bernauer’s family was asking for a %150000 fine.
