(WINDSOR, ON) – Although the Olde Sandwich Town Farmer’s market is back with its eclectic collection of farm fresh vegetables and fruits and other novelties and jewellery, the big attraction on Saturday was a kangaroo from Australia and a tegu lizard from Argentina. Both are from afar, but made a lot of new friends.

They were joined by a menagerie of more common farm fowl like chickens on display at a demonstration booth manned by Zoo2You. The company has a goal of entertaining and educating about the incredible animals that live on planet earth.

Because its animals are tame and friendly, raised by humans since birth, they interact on a personal level.

It is not every day local children get to pet a tegu lizard, a friendly one at that, but they could at the Olde Sandwich Towne Farmer's Market on 17 June 2017.Photo by Robert Tuomi.

A fixture at the market, Bob Nagy was manning Olde Sandwich’s Bedford United Church’s booth showing off the freshly baked ground beef and pork meat pies on offer. Revenue generated from the sale of the pies are a pillar in the church’s fundraising efforts to help it carry on its community work.

The market opens every Saturday and Sunday until October 1. It is on Mill, just south of Sandwich.
