Petrolia Men To Be Honoured For Bravery

(LONDON, ON) – In 2015, an elderly woman was rescued from her burning car in Petrolia. On Thursday this week, three Petrolia men will be honoured for their valiant efforts in saving the woman’s life.

John Allison, John McDonald, and Robert Stokes will each receive the Medal of Bravery as presented to them by Canada’s Governor General, David Johnston, during a ceremony at 2:00pm at the London Convention Centre.

On April 22, 2015, the injured woman tried to exit the vehicle through the car window, but her legs became stuck beneath the steering wheel. Allison reached inside the car and, after several attempts, managed to free the trapped woman.

McDonald and Stokes then assisted Allison in pulling the woman out of the vehicle and carrying her across the road to safety.

The ceremony will be streamed live Thursday starting at 2:00pm.
