(DETROIT, MI) – Windsor residents walking close to the Detroit River last week were enthralled by the spectacle occurring in Detroit as part of Marine Week. Sightings of US military aircraft not usually seen in these parts gave rise to numerous exclamations.

Each year the US Marine Corps selects a different city as the backdrop for the public relations and recruiting event. This year, Detroit was the chosen city and a sizeable grandstand was constructed at the Port of Detroit for spectators to take in the show.

The event featured hands-on static displays, as well as the live aerial demonstrations along the Detroit River and Marine Corps traditions and musical performances showcased the history the USMC. The Marine Corps is seven months older than the country it serves and has been the leading American component in times of crisis from the air, land, and sea.
