Knife-Wielding Man Tased

(WINDSOR, ON) – One man was arrested after Windsor Police officers found the man walking in the area of Ouellette Avenue and Wyandotte Street while carrying a large butcher knife on Sunday.

Ricky Ofori-Mensah, 32, from Windsor, was first heard by officers when he was yelling at a group of people in the area. As officers approached Ofori-Mensah, they saw that he was wildly swinging his arms and punching a phone booth.

As they got closer, they could see that he was carrying a large knife with an 8-inch blade. The officers ordered him to drop the knife, but Ofori-Mensah refuse to comply. They then deployed a taser and were able to safely disarm him and place him under arrest.

Ofori-Mensah continued to yell at police, even after being handcuffed, and threatened to kill one of the officers.

After being assessed at hospital he was taken to police headquarters for processing.

Ofori-Mensah has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, uttering a death threat, and breaching probation for possessing weapons.
