(WINDSOR, ON) – Windsor residents will have almost the whole month of December to be Doin’ the Louvre. Downtown’s Artcite is bringing back its annual Holiday Art Show and sale for the 36th time.
The theme is a meant to symbolize the fact that, at the Louvre, the famed art museum in Paris, art is hung floor to ceiling in what is called a salon style. The same approach to hanging will be employed at the sale.
One of the features of the program is that nothing at the sale will sell for over $199. The sale will take over Artcite from December 2 until Christmas Eve at its location in the Capitol Theatre. As important as it is as a fund-raiser for the artist-run centre of contemporary art, it is also an opportunity for local artists to show their work, some for the first time.
Some of the featured artists have created special pieces solely for the event. On display and ready for sale will be original work in a wide range of mediums including oil paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, mixed media, and sculptures along with artist-made gift items and wearable art created by established and emerging Windsor and Detroit area artists.
Visitors can also win one of the works and the the $2 entry ticket can be entered in a raffle. As an added delight to passers-by, the centre will have its front windows decorated in their holiday finest.
Attendees will also see the new floor at Artcite. Using part of the funding from the Ontario150 Community Capital Program, Artcite upgraded the flooring on its main floor to create what it says is a safer surface for visitors.
The rest of the funding will help cover expenses and allow the community to continue to enjoy and participate in Artcite’s programming and events.
