(RICHMOND HILL, ON) – This year is off to a strong start as February light vehicle sales reached another all-time monthly record level. A total of 123,032 new light vehicles were sold last month, up 3.2 per cent over the previous highest recorded February in 2016 with 119,225 units sold.
The strength in the market was the result of seventeen out of the twenty-six brands having reported sales increases. Growth was led by Maserati with sales up 429.2 per cent. Jaguar followed with an increase of 238.3 per cent.
Other brands that recorded double digit increases included Porsche, up 36.4 per cent, Audi, up 27.8 per cent, Lexus, up 22.9 per cent, Mercedes-Benz, up 22.5 per cent, Honda, up 21.7 per cent, Acura, up 17.4 per cent, Subaru, up 16.6 per cent, Mazda, up 15.0 per cent, and Mini, up 11.6 per cent.
FCA was the volume leader in February selling a total of 19,115 new light vehicles, up 1.6 per cent, followed by Ford with a total of 18,965 units, up 3.1 per cent, and GM with 16,528 units sold, up 5.1 per cent.
Only four brands observed significant double-digit sales declines in February.
Smart was down 82.3 per cent and led the group. It was followed by Land Rover, down 15.0 per cent, Mitsubishi, down 14.7 per cent, and Hyundai, down 12.7 per cent).
The trend towards light trucks continued in February with light truck sales increasing 5.2 per cent year-over-year and passenger car sales decreasing 2.1 per cent year-over-year.
