Ohio Man Is 6th Lake Erie Drowning In Two Months

(PELEE ISLAND, ON) – Five agencies were called out to Fish Point, on the southern tip of Pelee Island, in search of a missing swimmer, on August 20.

Around 1:50pm, four men went swimming near Fish Point and one of them began to struggle and didn’t make it to shore. Helicopters from the OPP and United States Coast Guard became in the search effort.

As the search resumed on August 21, the body of Jered Grieb, 20, of Chardon, OH, was located by a civilian near to shore, around 9:30am.

Grieb is the sixth person to drown in Lake Erie this summer. The body of Hussein Da Silva, 19, of Hamilton, was found in the water off Long Point Provincial Park on August 13. On the 11th, Tracy Quinlan, 45, of Niagara Falls, died off shore of Dover.

In July, Laura Del-Bel, 56, of Farmington Hills, MI, died while swimming near Colchester Harbour, William Johnston, 18, of Ingersoll, drowned off Port Stanley, and Guiseppe Ernesto Reinhart, 37, of Niagara Falls, died while fishing near near Hamburg, NY.
