Youth Travelling Down Wrong Path

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a youth in connection with the theft of a motor vehicle earlier this week.

On July 13, police responded to a residence on Churchill Street in Chatham in regards to a stolen copper coloured 2013 Dodge Ram pick-up truck. The truck was last seen with Ontario licence plates AA72 774.

Around 11:15 pm, police learned that the vehicle was travelling through the north end of Chatham. Officers located the stolen truck parked on Sheldon Avenue. With the assistance of witnesses, police identified the driver.

A search of the vehicle located the youth’s house key inside.

Tuesday morning, officers entered the youth’s apartment with a warrant for his arrest.  He was not home despite being bound by a daily curfew. At 4:30 pm, officers located the youth and he was taken into custody.

The 17 year-old Chatham youth has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failing to comply. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of July 27.
