(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – Just before 3:00 pm yesterday afternoon, Chatham-Kent Police responded to the Judy LaMarsh building, on William Street South, in regards to a suspicious package. A female employee of Employment and Social Development Canada opened an envelope containing white powder.

The woman attended the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance as a precaution.

The area was contained and shortly after 10:00 pm the OPP Urban Chemical Response Team arrived on scene to assist.

The investigation determined that the white powder was not suspicious and that there was no public safety concern.

The Chatham-Kent Police Criminal Investigations Section continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the envelope.
