(WINDSOR, ON) – Media City Film Festival has launched a Kickstarter campaign to support the 21st annual edition in July of 2015.
Media City is an annual, international festival for artist’s film and digital media held in the border cities of Windsor and Detroit. Media City is the only organization in the world to regularly exhibit and promote artists’ film culture on both sides of an international border.
In its twenty-year history, Media City has presented more than 3,000 films and other moving image artworks by artists from more than 60 nations, earning a reputation as one of the leading venues for artist’s film worldwide.
Media City also presents Mobile Frames, a year-round filmmaker-in-residence program that provides free 16mm filmmaking workshops to participants in Windsor and Detroit.
For the first time in its history, Media City is organizing a fundraising campaign. Supporting the Kickstarter will directly benefit filmmakers participating in the festival by increasing their exhibition fees, contributing to their travel and accommodations, and by funding events held at Detroit venues during the festival and during upcoming Mobile Frames residencies.
“Kickstarter is only successful if we reach our goal. Donations of any size make a big difference to our operation,” said Jeremy Rigsby, Program Director. “We are hoping that we can count on the community to help support artists’ film and video in the Windsor/Detroit area to ensure that this vital programming continues for another 20 years.”
In support of the campaign, Media City has assembled an amazing selection of incentives including DVDs, books, film prints, and many other rare and unique artworks, ephemera, and collectibles donated by filmmakers and artists from around the world. Backers of the initiative have an unprecedented opportunity to obtain original, signed artworks from Jack Smith, Peter Tscherkassky, Friedl Kubelka, Shiho Kano, Pablo Mazzolo, Julie Murray, Helga Fanderl, and dozens of other leading figures of the cinematic avant-garde.
The Media City Kickstarter campaign will continue to April 25, 2015.
