Cyclist’s Story Doesn’t Check Out

(WINDSOR, ON) – On July 19, emergency crews responded to the intersection of King Street and Fifth Street, in Chatham, in regards to an unresponsive man lying on the roadway next to a racing bicycle. A second cyclist was located at a nearby residence.

Both men were transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical treatment.

A 42 year-old Chatham man was transferred to the London Health Sciences Centre where he remains in serious condition.

A 41 year-old Chatham man was treated and released.

Through an investigation, police obtained security footage from a downtown business that captured the incident on video. The men were observed travelling at a high rate of speed before colliding with each other.

Neither cyclist was struck by a passing motorist.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is thanking all who came forward with information to assist in the investigation.
