Heinz Facility To Remain Open

By Teresa Piruzza, MPP for Windsor-West

(WINDSOR, ON) – I am very pleased with the joint announcement by Heinz and Highbury Canco Corporation (Canco) that the Leamington facility will remain open as a co-packing operation.

Today’s announcement is good news for the families, farmers, and local businesses in Essex County. It is further indication that our region is a preferred destination for agri-food opportunities and investments.

Working with the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce, I helped connect a representative of Canco to senior officials in the Ontario Government, where we played a leading role introducing these companies.

Since the Premier’s visit to Leamington in November, we have worked with the community to find new economic opportunities, including today’s announcement and last week’s expansion by Thomas Canning.

Regional economic development programs and provincial supports will continue to be made available to businesses looking to expand and/or purchase equipment to help create and retain jobs.

  1. Teresa was approached by the Matt Marchand the Windsor Essex Chamber of Commerce. Matt is the one that got the ball rolling, but again Teresa loves to take the credit for her small roll. Alan O’Dette is the party that contacted Matt Marchand to actually get things rolling.
