Elderly Man Charged With Pension Fraud

(TORONTO, ON) – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Financial Crime – Toronto North Office charged the following individual with offences under the Criminal Code.  The allegations all relate to fraud and the abuse of the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security.

Bob Mougtoussidis, 70 years of Toronto, has been charged with two counts each of Fraud Over $5,000, Possession of the Proceeds of Crime, and Laundering the Proceeds of Crime. Mr Mougtoussidis appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East in Toronto on March 27, and is next scheduled to appear on April 10.

As a result of an internal investigation, Employment and Social Development Canada referred a file relating to fraudulent activity involving an individual who continued to receive his mother’s Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security payments for a period of 15 years after her death.  It is alleged that Bob Mougtoussidis fraudulently collected an estimated $197,000 in Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security payments.

This investigation reflects the combined efforts of the RCMP and Employment and Social Development Canada working together to investigate allegations of criminal wrongdoing related to the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security in order to protect the integrity of the social benefit system in Canada.
