City Plans To Lease Airport Land For Solar Farm

(WINDSOR, ON) – The City of Windsor and the city airport have reached an agreement with Samsung Renewable Energy regarding a solar farm to be located on airport lands. Windsor Solar, is planning to engage in a renewable energy project to be located on the lands and will occupy 400 acres.

If approved, this Class 3 Solar Facility would have a maximum capacity of 50 MW. The lease of 400 acres of un-serviced land will be for a period of up to 24 years with an additional total financial benefit to the City of $25 million dollars.

Windsor Solar is hosting a public meeting at the airport tonight between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. You will be able to view information on the project, collect hand-outs, ask questions, and provide comments directly to the proponent.

  1. Well I guess the Windsor airport will not be expanding, those large 747 cargo planes will not be landing here. I guess this is good news for Eddie the city will now have revenue to pick up some of the losses from the WFCU Arena and the Aquatic Centre.

    The October municipal election can’t come to soon enough, we need a new mayor and new city council to get Windsor back on its feet.
