Butterfly Release Planned

By Nicole Amaral

(KITCHENER, ON) – Kitchener Cemeteries, in partnership with Bereaved Families of Ontario (BFO), will host its annual Walk to Remember and Butterfly Release this Sunday at Williamsburg Cemetery. It is an event that is held to support the healing process for those who have lost loved ones.

Registration, butterfly pick-up, refreshments and social time will run from 1:00 pm until 2:0 pm, followed by the opening ceremony. The butterfly release will begin at 2:45 pm, followed by the Walk to Remember through the  trails of Williamsburg.

Participants will also be invited to add the names and photos of their loved ones to the Wall of Memories.

The butterflies are made available by Greenway Blooming Centre, and have been tagged by Monarch Watch, an educational outreach program based at the University of Texas. Monarch Watch engages citizen scientists in large-scale research projects. The program produces real data related to conservation issues.

Proceeds from this event will allow BFO to continue offering community grief support to families through development and enhancement of programs and services.
