(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Police Service is investigating after a vehicle struck an eight year old girl on the city’s east side Thursday afternoon.

At 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2012, uniformed WPS Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Drouillard Rd. at Reginald St.  Responding officers arrived on scene to find Paramedics tending to an eight year old female in the middle of Drouillard Rd.  The girl was transported to Hotel – Dieu Hospital and later transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.  At the time of her transfer, the patient was listed as suffering from serious non-life threatening injuries and in stable condition.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Dodge Journey driven by a 24 year old male was northbound on Drouillard Rd. approaching Reginald St.  As the vehicle approached, the eight year old girl who was standing on the southeast corner of the intersection began to cross Drouillard Rd. in a westbound direction and was struck by the front end of the vehicle.  The impact caused the child to become air-borne and she landed in the middle of the roadway.

The investigation is continuing and charges have not been laid against the driver of the vehicle.  Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or with any information regarding the collision is asked to call the Windsor Police Traffic Follow Up Unit at 519-244-6700 ext 4211.
