WSO Presents Bach’s Christmas Oratorio

(WINDSOR, ON) – Renowned Canadian conductor Kevin Mallon leads the WSO in four performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. The concerts take place in Windsor, Leamington and Tecumseh December 9, 10 and 11.

Featured vocalists Virginia Hatfield, Maria Soulis, Joseph Schnurr and Giles Tomkins with the Windsor Classic Chorale, led by Joel Tranquilla.

The Christmas Oratorio ranks among Bach’s finest large-scale choral works and is in six parts, each a separate cantata intended for performance on one of the major feast days of the Christmas period. These performances will feature excerpts from each of the six cantatas.

Maestro Mallon’s impressive background includes being the founding Music Director of the celebrated vocal and instrumental group, the Aradia Ensemble—a position he continues to hold. Aradia has over 40 recordings and receives international praise and awards.

Mallon is also Music Director of the Toronto Chamber Orchestra, with whom he has made 15 recordings and received a Juno award nomination. As a violinist, Mr. Mallon played with the Hallé Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, served as concertmaster for Le Concert Spirituel and Les Arts Florissants and has held positions with the University of Toronto and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. In 2010, Maestro Mallon was commissioned to compose the music for the Starz television series Camelot.
