Playgrounds Sabotaged

(CHILLIWACK, BC) – Glass has once again been found at the playground at Watson Elementary school.  Police were called on July 2, 2011 at approximately 2:00 PM by a concerned parent whose son received a small scrape after sliding down the playground slide.  The glass was concealed at the bottom of the slide by pieces of wood placed over it.  Upon further investigation, the parent also noticed small shards of glass hidden on the playground bridge.

The last incident which was very similar was reported to police on June 26, 2011 also by an observant parent.  “The glass in these cases was not there by accident, there appears to be definite intent to injure the children using the playground,” said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck.  “It’s really difficult to speculate as to why a person would be motivated to harm children. This is a high priority for us and a big concern.”

Police want to encourage parents to look around any playground where they are taking their children to play.

“It’s really upsetting that we have to warn parents to be vigilant at the playground for hazards that may have been placed there, but it appears to be necessary at the moment,” said Cst. Wolbeck.
