Explosion Leads To Meth Lab

(SURREY, BC) – Last night at approximately 8:30pm, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of an explosion originating from a residence in the 7200 block of 140 A Street. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing a lot of smoke and the smell of chemicals in the air. A male was also seen fleeing the residence soon after the explosion advising people to stay away from the residence.

Upon police arrival, further investigation revealed the basement suite of the residence to be the site of a possible methamphetamine lab and the basement tenant the male suspect seen fleeing the area. Surrey Fire Department attended and confirmed the location to be a clan lab given the various elements which were located.

The Surrey RCMP, assisted by the Federal Drug Enforcement Clandestine Lab Team, have executed a search warrant and are working with Hazardous Material experts to dismantle this small scale lab.

The incident is not believed to be have any connections to organized crime and the elements of the lab were contained to the basement area of the residence. Police are following up on the whereabouts of the basement tenant.
