Wasting Police Resources

By John K Bennett

(DETROIT, MI) – We’re reminded everyday just how broke the city is, draconian cuts being made to various departments and workers and no sacrifice on the part of the very officials who are enacting the cuts.

How could it be that you have appointees making quadruple what a front line police, fire or other city worker makes and this person gets the added perk of having a security detail. Is this part of the financial restructuring that’s taking place?

According to sources, Chief Financial Officer Jack Martin has police officers assigned to him. However, Jack Martin is not the only newly appointed official in charge of Detroit’s “restructuring” making $220k. Are we outfitting all of these overseers with police and are these officers with them 24/7.

It’s unfortunate that in this alleged time of financial crisis that citizens are still put last even by those who’ve shown up and pretended to be working on their behalf. The fact is City Council or the Mayor should also relinquish all executive protection if their concern is for the people they represent. Council refused to place on the ballot before voters a proposal to hire 500 more cops because they said the officers there currently are, are not being allocated properly.

If we’re providing officers for City Officials then they’re right, officers aren’t being allocated appropriately.

  1. Honesty

The bottom line in all this is poor management by city officials, they seen what was coming and waited until they were in a crisis before acting. They do not need a police officer assigned to them that is part of the job, they know what the job risks are before accepting the position.
