Fire Fighters Released From Hospital

(CALGARY, AB) – Two Calgary Fire Department fire fighters injured earlier today while inside a burning N.E. home have been released from hospital.

Both fire fighters were injured when a large piece of ceiling fell and landed on them inside the home in the 100 Block of Bedford Drive. Fire Chief Bruce Burrell and Deputy Chief Neil Johnson visited the fire fighters while they were being treated in hospital and noted that they were both in “good spirits”. Both fire fighters were released from the hospital shortly after 8 pm this evening.

“There are inherent dangers in fire fighting for which Calgary fire fighters are well trained and prepared,” said Chief Burrell, adding “that fire scenes are unpredictable.” “We are pleased that both fire fighters are home with their families tonight recuperating and as always we will ensure that they receive the support that they need.”

The fire destroyed the detached garage and home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Only one occupant was home at the time and wasn’t injured.
