(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all motorists that Ontarians cannot smoke in motor vehicles with passengers under the age of 16. Under the law, a driver or passenger smoking in a motor vehicle, while someone else under the age of 16 is present, is committing an offence, and can be fined $125.

They can file this one right up there with their cell phone law as well. Making laws that are either impossible to enforce or lack any commitment from law enforcement to enforce is a waste of taxpayers money. Albeit I have no issue with the laws as they are valid as written are well intended, there is just no enforcement so it makes the points moot! It’s one of those, if you happen to come across this issue law, or, you can’t nail ‘em for anything else so hit ‘em with this law!
