OMA Takes Health Minister To Task

(TORONTO, ON) – The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) is surprised that the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care is holding a technical briefing and media conference regarding negotiations between the OMA and the government. This is unusual given that we continue to work closely with the government to achieve an agreement.

Yesterday the OMA provided an update to its members regarding the recent provincial budget, after some analysis of the impact. The OMA made no mention of negotiations, and is aware of the importance to respect the bargaining process.

The number one priority for Ontario’s doctors has and continues to be patients. Our priority is to protect the progress we have achieved together with the government in recent years and to improve access to important services for patients. We look forward to continuing this round of negotiations because we have a history of working with the government to address and fix challenges in our health care system and we remain hopeful that a deal can be reached in the interests of patient care.
