Tigers Sign Two Pitchers

(DETROIT, MI) - The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has agreed to one-year contracts with lefthanded pitcher Phil Coke and righthanded pitcher Rick Porcello, thus avoiding arbitration with both pitchers.

Coke finished 3-9 with a 4.47 ERA (108.2IP/54ER) in 48 appearances (14 starts) with the Tigers during the 2011 season. He compiled a 2-2 record and 3.71 ERA (34.0IP/14ER) in his 34 relief outings after returning to the club’s bullpen in June.

Porcello started 31 games for the Tigers during the 2011 season, compiling a 14-9 record and 4.75 ERA (182.0IP/96ER). He established career highs with 182.0 innings and 104 strikeouts for Detroit, while he equaled a career best with 14 wins.
