Galliano Found Guilty Of Anti-Semitism

(PARIS, FRANCE) – Fashion Designer John Galliano was found guilty in a French court on charges of making anti-Semitic comments against at least three people in a Paris cafe. Galliano has not been sentenced to prison time but was fined 6,000 euros.

“The symbolic one Euro fine by a French Court was the right legal punishment for John Galliano’s public anti-Semitic outbursts,” said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, founder and dean and associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“It is up to him to make amends to the community he demeaned and to the public at large. Especially now when anti-Semitism has become fashionable, it is important to emphasize that a cleverly worded press release is not sufficient. If John Galliano is truly sorry for what he did, only his future deeds will tell us how sincere he is,” they concluded.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, the Council of Europe and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
