Drive With Extra Care Around Schools
(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – The Chatham-Kent police are again reminding motorists about traffic safety around schools.
Yesterday officers from the Traffic Management Unit attended three schools in Chatham and issued 15 tickets for various traffic violations.
Police conducted traffic enforcement in the area of John N. Given Public School where officers issued two tickets for speeding on Canterbury Street and two tickets for stop sign violations at the intersection of Canterbury Street and Sussex Street.
An officer observed a third stop sign stop sign violation and followed the driver with the intention to stop her. Before he could initiate a traffic stop, she failed to stop at a second stop sign. She was issued two tickets for disobeying the stop signs.
Police also attended three schools to monitor parking and observed multiple infractions.
- St. Agnes Catholic School – Five parking tickets
- John N. Given School – no parking tickets
- Winston Churchill Public School – Three parking tickets plus one for parking in a designated handicap space
Motorists are reminded drive with extra care around schools and that parking illegally creates dangerous situations for children who have to navigate between vehicles. It’s about safety, not convenience. There are no excuses for compromising the safety of children.
