Will The Governerd Have The Nerve To Do It
I dare the Governerd to do so. No, I double dog dare the Governerd to prove to us that he has big kahoonas.
He has no need to worry. Canada’s got his back! Waaaaay back. Yup, they are about as far back as it gets.
The betting action at the regional Casinos has been hot and heavy I am told since the following was noticed in the Detroit News on May 27, 2011 in a story by Paul Egan:
“Snyder rejects call for bridge debate
Ambassador firm seeks to air issue at Mackinac conference
Gov. Rick Snyder on Thursday rejected a request from the Ambassador Bridge company to debate the issue of a new publicly owned international span across the Detroit River.
Dan Stamper, president of the Detroit International Bridge Co., which owns the Ambassador, sent Snyder a letter Wednesday asking for a debate at next week’s Mackinac Policy Conference, where the bridge project is expected to be a hot topic…
The governor’s bridge bill could be introduced in the Legislature on Tuesday, the day before the conference starts.”
There you have it. The Ego has landed. Although we heard it so many times before that it is like the boy crying “Wolf,” now the Governerd might be introducing his P3/DRIC legislation the day before the Mackinac Conference.
If he does so, and that is what the heavy Casinos betting is all about, it is not because of any legislative imperative… other than what the Governerd said previously that he would like a Bill passed before July 4…but it is because the Governerd has to demonstrate that he is a “MAN.” His ego has been bruised.
You see, right now the Governerd is viewed as a chicken, a coward, afraid to confront his opposition. He cannot do so because he knows that he would be slaughtered in any debate with a representative of the Bridge Company.
They have the facts. They have the evidence. All that the Governerd has are words that mean nothing. His analysis of the DRIC Bridge financial viability… where is it? His agreements with Canada and FHWA… non-existent. The traffic projections that demonstrate increasing amounts of traffic… hard to prove when traffic is about half of what it was a decade ago.
All the DRIC sycophants and hangers-on can do is accuse the Bridge Company people and their consultants of being liars without a shred of proof to back it up. Smear and innuendo are their tactics.
The Governerd has been hit hard. He has been stung by the criticism that he is censoring Dick Morris and denying him the right of free speech merely because he has been retained by the Ambassador Bridge Company. Clearly, the Governerd looks like the Cowardly Lion. He has infuriated a good part of his base because of his actions and is jeopardizing the re-election of those who have to run again shortly.
Oh I know now that he has a thin skin. Those Bridge Company television commercials must be really hurting. Imagine, someone having the nerve to go after him and then running a poll that confirms that the public think so little of his performance that they don’t want his bridge. It must be so upsetting how far he has fallen in so short a time.
Even his Republican Party colleagues are having trouble tolerating him. When it comes to DRIC where he undercut his own party even after they had opposed unanimously what the ex-Governor wanted to impose on the State taxpayers, they rebuffed him, effectively cutting off all money for DRIC. What is he going to do, suck up to the Democrats now to get his way?
Leverage against his Party members? That disappeared when the Bridge Company offered their toll credits. The Governerd and the Lt. Governerd could no longer threaten the Legislature that they needed the Bill passed so they could get Canada’s money or local roads and bridges would not be built because of the lack of federal matching grants. The threat is gone now and $50 million has been provided by the Ambassador Bridge Company, not Canada, to plug the $200 million hole in the Governerd’s Transportation Budget. And there is more to come.
Introducing a DRIC/P3 Bill after they saved his bacon, now that is the Governerd’s gratitude for you.
I certainly would not want to be the Republican who has to sponsor the Bill in the Senate when it is introduced. That should be a career ender. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if that person says “Look, I am introducing the Bill as a favour to the Governerd even though I oppose it myself.” If not, that person could lose the respect of his colleagues very quickly if he/she tries to advance the Governerd’s agenda. Imagine, that person’s own party turning their backs on him/her if he/she tries to sell the Governerd’s absurd proposal.
Get real Governerd. Who the heck is advising you politically? It might be time for you to stop thinking like a CEO who gets whatever he wants or else he fires people and start thinking like the politician that you are.
Introduce legislation… I doubt it.
The Governerd is so afraid to talk about the DRIC Bridge publicly and why he wants to destroy the Ambassador Bridge Company business that he will introduce legislation the day before the biggest conference in Michigan with all of the State movers and shakers in attendance so that they can talk about the border file for several days. What a dumb idea.
Introduce the Bill and the need for Canada’s $550M just as the Canadian Parliament opens and before the new Budget is introduced to give the Opposition a new scandal with which to hit the Prime Minister. What a dumb idea.
Sure Governerd, give the Bridge Company the opportunity to look at your legislation and destroy it as they talk to people on the Porch of the Grand Hotel. Give them the chance to hold press conference after press conference, one on one with reporters. What a dumb idea.
I love it. Introduce the legislation Governor and who knows what the Bridge Company might do then. Perhaps they will have the debate without the Governerd, just an empty chair beside Dan Stamper. The photographers will have a field day with that. My suggestion to them would be to invite Dick Morris to come and give a talk during that one hour that was set aside for the debate. Can you imagine the throngs that would come to see him. Can you imagine the press coverage. Can you imagine what he would say! What a dumb idea.
Oh Governerd, you cannot be this dumb to introduce the legislation can you. You cannot paint yourself into a corner this way. You cannot be that foolish to have everyone in the Legislature lined up against you and to take it out on you on this specific piece of legislation when they could not do it to you before. Revenge can be sweet.
Well Governerd you need a solution. You need an answer. And of course, the BLOGMeister has the way out for you.
Let one of your flunkies do it and fall on the sword for you. The sycophants in the media will do your dirty work and blame him/her when it turns into a gigantic fiasco.
You are most welcome.
As for me, I need to rush down to the Windsor Casino to the Legends Sports Bar to place my bet before you make it clear that nothing is going to be introduced.
