Police Catch Armed Robbery Suspect

(NANAIMO, BC) – On Tuesday April 26, 2011,  at approximately 11:53 a.m.,  the Nanaimo RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at the Domino’s Pizza at 1925 Bowen Road, Nanaimo B.C.  A lone male, armed with a handgun, entered the store and demanded cash from the employees.  He was given an undisclosed amount of money.  The male fled in a grey truck.  The BC licence plate was obtained.  Approximately 4 minutes later a call was received of an erratic driver.  The description and BC licence plate matched that of the vehicle involved in the armed robbery.  At approximately 12:04 p.m. the vehicle was pulled over by the Nanaimo RCMP on Highway 19 near Northfield road.  The Highway was shut down for approximately 5 minutes to ensure the public safety while the arrest was being made.  A 21 year old male from the Lower Mainland was taken into police custody.  A realistic imitation handgun was located.  The suspect remains in police custody and will be appearing in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Wednesday April 27, 2011.  Charges have not been laid as of this date and time.
