Elderly Man Beaten By Son

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – A Chatham man is in police custody following an incident of elder abuse.

Yesterday afternoon, a man attended his parent’s residence on Sandy’s Street in Chatham.  He asked his elderly father for money and was refused. His father told his son that he would not give him anymore money, but offered to feed him. The son ate while continuing to ask for money. Eventually, the father packed some canned goods in a plastic bag asked his son to leave the residence. The son became enraged and pushed his father to the floor. Standing over his father, he picked up the plastic bag containing canned goods and swung it, striking him in the head and a second time in the thigh. He then repeatedly kicked his father before fleeing the residence.

The suspect was located walking along McNaughton Avenue and arrested.

A 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
