Windsor Series Solar Panel Unveiled
(WINDSOR, ON) – Unconquered Sun Solar technologies Inc. is a Windsor Ontario based manufacturer of photovoltaic (solar) panels. Currently producing the “Windsor Series” panel, a module that carries the namesake of the City of Windsor, built to satisfy the domestic content requirements outlined by the Ontario Power Authority for the FIT and microFIT contracts.
Friday, on the grounds of the Unconquered Sun manufacturing facility the “Windsor Series” panel was unveiled to signify the fully operational status of the plant.
This will be of important historical significance since the 220watt and 230watt polycrystalline modules are the first of their kind produced in the Province of Ontario. This achievement is a testament to the perseverance, innovation and technological expertise of the people of Windsor and Essex County.
Inspired by the Green Energy Act and born of an unconquerable will to see the Windsor area resurge as a sustainable manufacturing base for green technologies Unconquered Sun was founded last year.
While most were considering their options on how to get into the supply chain manufacturing component parts, CEO Sean Moore thought, “we can do more than just build the frames or polish the glass.”
“We certainly have the skill, the technological knowhow, and everybody knows there’s a lot of talent sitting at home right now who could use the work, so let’s just build the panels.”
Solar panels are made by connecting multiple crystalline silicone cells together in series and then laminating them onto a glass substrate using vacuum, pressure and temperature cycles.
What sets Unconquered Sun panels apart, other than the fact they are produced locally, alleviating many warranty concerns, is the quality of the lamination. Unlike foreign panels “It is performance critical that these panels are hermetically sealed with the highest quality encapsulant and they are built with our harsh Canadian climate in mind.”
With a projected capacity of 6 MW/yr of production, hoping to triple by the end of 2011 and only one other company set to build panels in the province. Feedback has been positive with many developers lining up to reserve room in the production schedule in anticipation of the increased “Ontario content” requirement coming in December.
“The momentum of history is behind renewable technology manufacturing in Canada,” said Moore.
Combine this with Windsor’s latitude, manufacturing expertise, and indomitable spirit and you get “Unconquered Sun.”
