Even More Short News Bits

As a result of my operations, I have not been able to keep up with my usual writing articles. I probably will not be writing many articles over the next little while.

However, let me write the odd bit as I see things that interest me:

OH MIO MYO

I have to admit that I don’t understand why at all. Why would Eddie Mio have an interest in running for Mayor of Windsor?

As the Star reported:

WINDSOR STAR EXCERPT DELETED BY REQUEST OF POSTMEDIA NETWORK INC. LEGAL DEPT.”

That would hardly be a ringing endorsement of him. I would be surprised if too many people at this stage of the game would think that he knows enough about Windsor to be a credible mayoral candidate.

I hardly believe him to be an Edgar (aka Eddie) booster if he was part of Project Ice Track. If that is the case, then one wonders why he would enter the race and potentially take away votes from Rick Limoges.

If he is serious about running for office and wants to help out in Windsor, then there are a couple of Wards where he did run that desperately need new Councillors.

Anyway, I’m not in the mood to think very much about all of this until such time as he decides what he’s going to do.

THE COUNCIL RACES

Assuming that there is an interesting race between the mayoral candidates, expect a larger than normal turnout on voting day. Although the percentage numbers will still be pretty abysmal.

I would expect that the number of anti-incumbent votes would increase but that does not necessarily mean that the incumbents will be defeated. In many of the wards, several strong candidates who are running against the incumbent may well split the vote allowing the incumbent to be re-elected.

I am aware of certain instances where people are being encouraged to run specifically to split the vote.

I wonder if any of the candidates will sit down before nominations close and talk to their colleagues about whether any of them should withdraw for the good of the electorate i.e. so that the incumbents are not put back into office.

Now that will be a test of true selflessness ie sacrificing one’s political career for the greater good of Windsorites.

The other interesting aspect of the Council races is a competition between the Liberals, the NDP and the Edgar-ites for control of Council. Obviously, the Edgar-ites do cross party lines but the concern of the E–Machine is to ensure that the Majority of Council Members are supportive of the Mayor or he will have a very unpleasant four-year term if  he  is re-elected.

While party politics are generally not thought to be important in municipal affairs, that does not seem to be the case in Windsor these days where party will play a leading role in the background.

WHY E C ROW WILL BE UPGRADED

“[WINDSOR STAR EXCERPT DELETED BY REQUEST OF POSTMEDIA NETWORK INC. LEGAL DEPT.’

Another excuse for Edgar (aka Eddie) to allow trucks on the Expressway.

IN SUPPORT OF BEING NONDEMOCRATIC

Might be fun to see six candidates for Mayor attacking everything that Edgar has done over his two terms. Do you really believe that Edgar could bear to listen to the blame for Windsor’s poor economic state being put on him for so long by so many people?

Merely because someone decides to put their name in to run for Mayor of Windsor, does it mean that they should be treated equally with all other candidates in every instance?

The Chamber of Commerce says NO in respect of a debate that the organization is going to sponsor. And I agree with them.

WINDSOR STAR EXCERPT DELETED BY REQUEST OF POSTMEDIA NETWORK INC. LEGAL DEPT

I remember the debate among the Mayor, Bill Marra and Ernie Lamont. While Ernie was very entertaining and kept the crowd amused, his presence frankly interrupted the flow of the debate and prevented all of the questions being asked and answered.

Imagine what it would be like if there are five other candidates in this election who needed to be given time to answer a question. A 2-hour debate could mean only a few questions being asked if each candidate was given five to 10 minutes to answer.

I am not sure that I agree with the Chamber’s reasoning but I do agree with the result. Clearly, the Chamber as a private organization has the right to determine who should appear.

There are very serious issues that the leading candidates need to answer so that we will know what their position is. A so-called debate amongst seven mayoral candidates is not the way to accomplish that task.

ANOTHER SURVEY, ANOTHER BOTTOM POSITION

So much for Gazelles and “Economic Gardening.” Are they serving Gazelle burgers at the wFcU Arena instead of hamburgers?

Remember what Matt Fischer said when he was the head of the Undevelopment Commission:

WINDSOR STAR EXCERPT DELETED BY REQUEST OF POSTMEDIA NETWORK INC. LEGAL DEPT.”

However anyone wants to try justify it, this City is a mess. This is just the latest of a number of surveys that ranked the City at the bottom or close to the bottom of whatever that particular survey is dealing with.

This time:

I find it sad what Alfie Morgan said in the article given his criticisms of how this City treat small business

WINDSOR STAR EXCERPT DELETED BY REQUEST OF POSTMEDIA NETWORK INC. LEGAL DEPT."

Who cares about small businesses when there are huge Megaproject mind’s eye visions to be developed. We have to have canals and airport transportation hubs to build along with money-losing  swimming pools, urban villages and new downtowns. After all, that is what is going to make this small town of 200,000 a “world-class” City according to Edgar.
